Carrying Consultancy Course FAQs
Answers to the common questions regarding the Consultancy Course
Who is the Consultancy Course for?
How long is the Consultancy Course?
The Course is spread over 4 days, unless the group has more than 14 participants, then it is spread over 5 days. It starts every day at 9 am and finishes at 5.30 pm (UK time or local time if in-person).
I can’t get 4 free days to attend the consultancy course. Is there anything you can do to help?
We understand it can be difficult to make the logistics work. It is possible to attend the course in several bursts. You can do as little as one day at a time, providing you attend them in order. Feel free to get in touch to discuss your specifics. We are a human-sized school and want to find solutions with you, that work for you.
Do I need to do anything before the Consultancy Course?
No. And also yes. You don’t need to do anything as we will look into most topics from the grounds up. This being said, the more you prepare, the more you will get out of any course. The good news is that if you do not have the time or resources to do any preparation, you can still come back as many times as you wish. This means that as your knowledge grows, you can come back and ask any new question that may have arisen. Some people have done this course being non-parents and with no carrying experience. This means that they have a lot more to discover and digest but it also means that there are no bad habits to relearn. Others have come having been experienced consultants for many years, even trainers for other schools. Whilst they have been able to ask many in-depth questions and would have found many of the practical work straightforwards, they have also spent a lot of their energy balancing this new knowledge with their existing practice.
Do I need equipment?
Yes, you can find the list for your course here. If you are struggling to access all the slings, we can direct you towards places where you can hire or buy.
How many participants can you have on the Consultancy Course?
I am very nervous/anxious about new environments. Can you help?
Do I need to do anything after the Consultancy Course? Is there coursework?
Is the Consultancy Course focused on wraps?
No it most definitely is not. The baby-carrying community encompasses many different types of slings and it would be a shame to only focus on one type. We will work with woven and stretchy wraps, ring slings, meh dais, buckle carriers, pouches, skin to skin tubes, traditional carriers, hybrid carriers…
Can I bring my baby/toddler to an in-person course?
Yes, you absolutely can, providing he/she is healthy (meaning no chicken pox for instance!) We love babies and toddlers. We will do whatever we can for you to feel supported and we will encourage the group to do so too. It is however worth for you to know that the course is very intense and you are likely to wish you had more headspace to focus on the content, then again, you know your child’s needs and yours best. Remember that you can also re-attend at a later stage to pick up on any part you feel you may have missed.
Can I have my baby/toddler with me whilst attending a remote course?
Yes, you absolutely can. We love babies and toddlers.
Will I get a certificate of attendance?
Will I be able to teach straight after the course?
This is the aim! The reason why the course is spread over four days is to give you a chance to take in new skills as well as the new teaching methods. It is one thing to know how to do something yourself, it is another to know how to teach this skill to others.
Will I be free to teach the way I want or am I expected to do it a specific way?
There is a big section of the course about the ethics behind being a consultant. The philosophy behind Slingababy is about supporting parents to reach their own decisions. We will also share some valuable teaching methods with you, however, it is your choice whether you choose to use them or not.
Are there some Continuing Professional Development days?
Yes there are. Twice a year you will be invited back to get to know the other consultants and share skills and knowledge. Over the years we have covered a wide variety of topics and we will continue to do so. These will always be free of charge.
